First, Notre Dame needs to start fast. The Fighting Irish have experienced frustrating starts under Marcus Freeman, and Ryan doesn't want to see another slow opening against Wisconsin. Notre Dame enters the season with national championship expectations, while Wisconsin is trying to establish itself under head coach Luke Fickell. Ryan believes the Irish need to come out with energy, physicality and urgency and establish control early. The second major storyline is CJ Carr. Notre Dame's running game could look different in 2026 after losing the explosive production of Jeremiah Love and Dorian Price. Ryan still expects the Fighting Irish to run the football effectively, but believes Notre Dame will need more explosive plays through the air.
